WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —

The Purdue Contemporary Dance Company will perform its Spring Works concert April 29-30.

The dance company will present five new works by faculty, a student artist and a guest artist. Original sound scores and lighting designs were produced by students in the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance.

Guest artist Joy McEwen was a principal dancer with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company and recently retired from Purdue Bands & Orchestras as the director of auxiliaries and coach of the Golduster Dance Team.

Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 29 and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 30 in the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Pao Hall.

Tickets for each show are available online via the Purdue Ticket Office or by calling the Purdue box office at 765-494-3933. Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for students and $8 for children ages 1-12.

The five works:

“Drawing Lines” by faculty member Sally Wallace explores ways of developing line patterns in space and explores with tongue-in-cheek the connotations of phrases in the English language such as “drawing a line” or “stepping out of line.”

“APRILTEHE” by faculty member Petur Iliev is a high-energy dance inspired by birds in spring out of their natural habitat. Their daily life on the roofs of tall buildings in a big city is captured in sound and motion.

“Small Plates to Share” by faculty member Renee Murray is a collection of short dances inspired by human interactions and emotions.

“Navigating Through Sickness and Good Health” by student artist Alyssa Arreola, challenges dancers to explore the emotional components of health. Arreola is a junior majoring in interdisciplinary sciences with minors in dance and psychology.

“Moments Lost: Found” by guest artist Joy McEwen, considers how we ponder time and views time as both a literal and a figurative part of our lives.
