HAMMOND, Ind. — Purdue University will extend its four-year streak of above-Big-Ten-average salary increases with a faculty and staff salary policy for fiscal year 2025 of an average of 3% recurring increase, plus a 0.5% non-recurring recognition and reward pool. Trustees on Friday (April 5) endorsed the policy as proposed by President Mung Chiang.

“Since the annual tuition freeze began in 2013-14, our employees have seen an average salary increase of 2.6%. Before the freeze it was 2% annually,” Chiang said. “This speaks to the financial strength of our university and to our commitment to the dedicated faculty and staff who are so vital to achieving excellence at scale.”

Except for the pandemic year of 2020-21, Purdue has offered a merit increase every year since 2010. (In November 2020, more than 15,000 employees received a one-time appreciation award of $750.) In total, since July 2021 and through the current salary year, the average salary at Purdue West Lafayette has increased 21%, with management and professional staff having seen a 25% increase and service staff a 32% increase.

With planned salary increases for FY25, the university has invested nearly $300 million in recurring compensation increases since July 2021.

Additionally, Purdue has recognized, rewarded and retained employees through a series of programs funded in the current budget through a special 1% pool. More than 1,700 faculty, staff and graduate employees have been recognized so far in FY24.

Purdue will continue its current processes for midyear promotions and market competitiveness reviews.

Merit increases will take effect July 1.
