Appointments, honors and activities

• Faculty and staff honors:
- Ellen Ernst Kossek of Krannert School of Management has been awarded the Work Life Legacy Award by the Families and Work Institute. The award recognizes those who have created and built the work-life movement. Kossek is the Basil S. Turner Professor of Management and the research director of the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence. She has served as president of the Work and Family Researchers Network and is known for her research in areas involving work-life issues. She attended the White House Summit on Working Families in Washington, D.C., June 23.
- Dan Degnan, senior project manager for the Center for Medication Safety Advancement, is the president-elect of the Indiana Pharmacists Alliance. Degnan will be sworn into office at the alliance's annual meeting in September. The Indiana Pharmacists Alliance is a professional association serving the state's pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Its mission is to advance the profession of pharmacy in Indiana through advocacy, education and leadership.
• Student honors:
- Prahatha Venkatraman, a graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences, was accepted and received a scholarship to participate in the neurobiology course at the Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. During the two-month course Venkatraman will blog about her experience at https://www.bio.purdue.edu/lab/leung/blog/?p=1679. Venkatraman is a member of professor Yuk Fai Leung's research team and is working with a zebrafish model to find new ways to improve vision and treat retinal degeneration. The Marine Biological Laboratory is dedicated to scientific discovery and improving the human condition through research and education in biology, biomedicine and environmental science.
