Set for April 27, Purdue Day of Giving promises to be bigger and better
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The third annual Purdue Day of Giving will offer bigger and better opportunities than ever when students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends join forces on Wednesday, April 27, in a 24-hour online, social media-driven fundraising effort to support the university and its programs.
“Bigger and Better”—this year’s theme—is no small feat, considering Purdue’s second annual Day of Giving netted $13,695,951 from 9,592 donations and set the record for most dollars raised for higher education through a single-day campaign. Donations ranging from $10 to $2 million came in from all 50 states and from 37 countries last year, including Colombia, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia, India, Australia and China.
“Purdue Day of Giving’s growing success speaks volumes about the pride and generosity that inspire the global Purdue family to support a more affordable education, grant opportunity and transform lives,” says Amy Noah, vice president for development.
Among the “bigger and better” ways to take part in this year’s Day of Giving:
More than 30 hourly challenges will keep Purdue’s 58 participating programs (academic and non-academic) competing for cash prizes to add to the impact of donations. That’s 11 more hourly challenges and 13 more participating programs than last year. Some challenges to look for include largest single donation, most parent donors, most alumni donors of the last decade, donation from person living farthest from campus and random Purdue Day of Giving selfie.
A competition specifically for student organizations will engage more than 140 participating organizations (up 100 from last year) in a friendly rivalry and the chance for cash prizes.
This year, on-campus activities will be bigger and better, too. The second annual Boiler Bash will provide activities and entertainment for students, and participating units will also host fun celebratory events throughout the day.
Those who give to Purdue during the Day of Giving can direct their gifts where they choose by going online to DayOfGiving.purdue.edu or by calling toll-free at 800-319-2199.
