Purdue ranks No. 4 best value school in nation in WSJ/Times Higher Ed ranking
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue ranks fourth best in the nation for Best Value institutions in the United States, based on a survey released Wednesday (Sept. 5) by The Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education.
The Best Value ranking is part of the overall WSJ/THE rankings of U.S. Institutions, now in its third year. This year, for the first time, the rankings calculated institutions that provide the best value for students by dividing each of the top 250 schools’ overall score by its average net price.
“Once again, we are among the nation’s top institutions based on a methodology that focuses on value and outcomes, which we believe should be the priority for all of higher education,” said Purdue President Mitch Daniels. “Our faculty are committed to providing a high-quality education at the highest proven value, not to achieve rankings, but because it’s the right thing to do.”
Ranking above Purdue on the best value list are Berea College in Kentucky, the University of North Carolina and the University of Washington.
Purdue is ranked 6th in the nation among public institutions and 43rd overall nationally. UCLA; the University of Michigan; the University of California, Berkeley; the University of North Carolina; and the University of California, Davis, rank ahead of Purdue among public universities.
The rankings, according to The Wall Street Journal, focus on four key areas. Forty percent of the overall score is based on student outcomes, 30 percent from resources, 20 percent from engagement with students and 10 percent from the learning environment. The rankings include a list of 968 institutions in the United States.
