Treating roads for ice and snow can burden the budget and environment. Yaguang Zhang, clinical assistant professor of agricultural and biological engineering and agricultural sciences education and communication, created a map of sun shadows using lidar technology that the Indiana Department of Transportation uses to more efficiently treat roads for winter conditions.
