Capt. Sully Sullenberger, a Purdue University alumnus who heroically landed a commercial airliner on the Hudson River in 2009, saving all 155 passengers and crew, will join Purdue President Mung Chiang for a Presidential Lecture Series event on Nov. 4. Capt. Sullenberger’s Purdue appearance, titled “How a Life’s Commitment to Excellence Saved 155 People Aboard US Airways Flight 1549,” is free and open to the public, but a general admission ticket will be required.
Dyslexia affects 15%-20% of people, according to the International Dyslexia Association. But from slow or inaccurate reading to poor spelling to trouble with comprehension, the severity of dyslexia symptoms varies from person to person. However, through both research and clinical practice, faculty in Purdue University’s College of Health and Human Sciences are working to improve outcomes for individuals with dyslexia.
Nobel laureate Lars Peter Hansen, an expert at the forefront of economic thinking and asset-price modeling, joined Purdue President Mung Chiang for the latest edition of the Presidential Lecture Series. Hansen’s talk was titled “Uncertainty in Our Scientific Inputs Into Policy: Disguise It or Embrace It?” A video of the event is now available.
Purdue United Way continues to work toward its goal of fundraising $700,000 for local agencies in need and adding 150 new donors to its roster by inviting the campus community to donate, volunteer and take part in campaign activities this fall. Campaign leaders Dimitrios Peroulis and Sang Woo hope to reach this year’s goal by Nov. 14.
