In a significant step to expand Purdue’s global leadership in innovation and business, President Mung Chiang led a high-level delegation on a three-day visit to India last week, aimed at solidifying the university’s role as a pivotal partner in India’s rapidly growing semiconductor, finance and emerging technology sectors. This visit marks a new chapter in Purdue’s 125-year relationship with India, dating back to its first Indian students.
As a boy, Marshall Porterfield, professor of biological engineering and space biophysics, was influenced by viewing the Apollo rocket launches. His later research career in space included working on some of the earliest plant growth experiments in the shuttle era. Porterfield recently began work for NASA’s Artemis missions, which aim to send astronauts back to the moon to create a path to Mars and further.
Purdue has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to lead the Quantum Photonics Integrated Design Center (QuPIDC) Energy Frontier Research Center. QuPIDC will be directed by Libai Huang, professor in the James Tarpo Jr. and Margaret Tarpo Department of Chemistry.
Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences professors honored by American Geophysical Union
Michael Vermeuel and Ali Bramson, both assistant professors in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, were recently honored by the American Geophysical Union. Bramson was awarded the 2024 AGU Ronald Greeley Early Career Award in Planetary Science, and Vermeuel received the
2024 James R. Holton Award.
AGU, the world's largest Earth and space science association, celebrates individuals and teams through its annual Honors and Recognition program for their accomplishments in research, education, science communication and outreach.
The 2024 Purdue United Way campaign is now underway, with the goal of raising $700,000 for local agencies in need and adding 150 new donors to its roster. The campaign officially launched Tuesday (Sept. 24) following a kickoff event on Purdue Mall with volunteers; organizers; this year’s campaign chair, Dimitrios Peroulis; and vice chair Sang Woo.
