Healthy Boiler workshop to focus on empowering the mind; register by May 7 to attend

In recognition of Mental Health Month (May) and to help raise awareness, an upcoming Healthy Boiler workshop will explore the nuances of depression and anxiety. Join Melissa Covarrubias, behavioral health counselor at the Center for Healthy Living, from noon to 1 p.m. ET May 8 as she presents the “Empower Your Mind” Healthy Boiler workshop.

Mental Health America (MHA) reports that nearly one in five Americans will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year. Additionally, MHA shares that anxiety and major depression are among the most common mental illnesses.

“During the workshop, we will delve into a comprehensive understanding of symptoms and discover effective strategies for symptom management, including relaxation skills, positive reframing and various techniques,” Covarrubias said. “I hope attendees will be able to elevate their mental well-being as we look into practical insights for a more empowered and resilient mind.”

Those interested in attending should register by May 7 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the Healthy Boiler Workshops section on the portal’s homepage. Hover over “Empower Your Mind” and click the circle “i” icon to register. The workshop supports the behavioral health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program.

Healthy Boiler workshops are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and their dependents covered on a Purdue health plan.
