Various travel restrictions expected as work progresses on transformative capital projects this summer
While work progresses on several transformative capital projects on the West Lafayette campus, various travel restrictions will be in place this summer.
The following road, sidewalk and parking restrictions are expected during the coming months:
Life Science Ranges Phenotyping Greenhouse Building: South Russell Street, just south of Mitch Daniels Boulevard, will remain closed for construction on the Life Science Ranges Phenotyping Greenhouse Building.
Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building: Construction on the new Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building, also south of Mitch Daniels Boulevard and along South Russell Street, is scheduled to begin in July. The same traffic patterns for the Life Science Ranges Phenotyping Greenhouse Building will remain in place from July through February 2025. The sidewalk and street parking along the west side of South Russell Street will also close in July and remain closed off through November 2026. The parking lot located at the southwest corner of Mitch Daniels Boulevard and Russell Street will permanently close July 22.
University Hall project: While Oval Drive around Memorial Mall will remain open, motorists should be aware of construction fencing in front of University Hall. Fencing is also up along the north side of University Hall, closing off the walkway between it and Schleman Hall. Additionally, fencing is expected to be installed around Heavilon Hall in late June with the goal of demolition starting in early September after preparatory work. As a result of the fencing, the walkways near the Brown Laboratory of Chemistry and Grissom Hall will be closed.
New residence hall: As construction on a new residence hall continues south of Hillenbrand Residence Hall, MacArthur Drive from First to Third streets will remain closed. The Hillenbrand Dining Court and loading dock will also remain closed throughout the summer but will reopen for the start of the fall semester.
Amelia Earhart Terminal: Construction on the new airport terminal is underway after a ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday (May 14) and commercial air service started on Wednesday (May 15). The terminal project is expected to be completed in August 2025. Some parking changes have gone into effect to accommodate passenger parking.
Some other projects around campus include the Pete Dye Clubhouse at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex along Cherry Lane and a student housing project at Third Street and McCormick Road by the Purdue Research Foundation.
Updates about construction and road projects will continue to be posted on the Physical Facilities construction and travel notices webpage.
Administrative Operations supports the university through safe, reliable and transformative services. Addressing the needs of the campus community with new capital projects and developments is just one of many ways the organization powers Purdue.
