Fall 2024 Road to Retirement begins next week; get a jump start with helpful program resources

It’s almost time for the fall 2024 Road to Retirement virtual conference. Human Resources looks forward to having faculty and staff participate in the conference, which takes place Sept. 25-27, and encourages all Purdue, Purdue Global, Purdue for Life and Purdue Research Foundation employees and their planning partners to take advantage of the many presentations and included resources offered to help them plan toward a successful retirement.

Road to Retirement — a financial wellness and retirement planning conference open to all faculty and staff twice a year — brings together a variety of experts and resources in one place to address relevant financial wellness and retirement planning topics.

Preparing for retirement is just as important as the work put in to building a successful career. It’s never too early or too late to lay a solid foundation for the years spent in retirement.

This event will help individuals better understand what next steps to take as they continue building their life plan toward retirement. Participating organizations include The Center for Healthy Living, Fidelity, HSA Bank, Purdue HR Benefits, INPRS-PERF, Social Security Administration, TIAA and more.

Just getting started with your career? No problem. Although retirement may be further down the path, sessions are available to help individuals financially prepare for retirement while they are in their working years, such as:

  • “Five Money Musts”
  • “Take the First Step to Investing”
  • “Get a Handle on Student Loan Debt”
  • “Raising Money-Smart Kids”
  • “HSA’s From Safety Net to Nest Egg”

Within a few years of retirement? We have loads of sessions for you to check out, too.

  • “Live with Confidence in Retirement”
  • “Maximize Social Security in Your Retirement Strategy”
  • “Understanding Social Security Retirement Benefits for Purdue University”
  • “Under 65 Retiree Health Care Options”
  • “PURA Health Care Plans for Medicare-eligible Retirees”

Fall 2024 conference schedule

View the full conference schedule here. Many presentations will be offered live, while others are prerecorded for viewing anytime. Individuals should register for each live session they plan to attend through the link posted on the conference schedule website above.

Get ready: pre-program preparation encouraged for best takeaway

Participants can do a few things ahead of time to prepare themselves for the information they’ll receive from the Road to Retirement conference presentations. We encourage everyone to take the time to review:

  • Financial wellness
    • Log in to see how your budget compares with Fidelity’s budget checkup tool.
    • Log in to your Fidelity account and take the financial wellness checkup to see your scores across savings, debt management, budgeting and financial protection categories.
    • If you are dealing with student loan debt, check out Fidelity’s student debt tool.

Checking out these resources prior to or during the Road to Retirement conference will be beneficial to individuals as they continue to plan for retirement. For those within two years of retiring, this checklist is an easy way to help them stay focused and on track.

Human Resources — Benefits hopes faculty and staff attend this virtual event as they plan their path to retirement. Don’t forget, attendees are welcome to share the schedule of information with their retirement planning partners.
