Guidance available on mail services for Purdue University in Indianapolis

Guidance is now available on how to retrieve and deliver mail at Purdue University in Indianapolis.

IU Indianapolis Print and Mail Services is providing mail services to Purdue faculty, staff, occupants and departments located in the following buildings:

  • Engineering and Technology Building (ET)
  • Innovation Hall (IO)
  • Science and Engineering (SL)
  • Science Building (LD)
  • Science and Engineering Lab Building (EL)

All inbound (USPS and campus) and outbound mail will be picked up, sorted and delivered by IUI Print and Mail Services Monday through Friday.

Two designated mailrooms currently serve all buildings. The ET mailroom is in suite 215. The other mailroom is in LD001 and will serve IO, SL, LD and EL. Each department shall designate one primary staff member and one backup staff member to have key access to the mailroom to retrieve, sort and further distribute daily mail for their department. Keys are limited to two per department, and each department needs to establish a process for handling and securing the mail and key(s). Individuals that have been approved by their department chair as needing access to mailrooms should send the approval documentation to Tiffany Lewallen at tlewalle@purdue.edu and make arrangements to pick up the keys.

Small packages arriving via USPS will be left for pickup in the mailrooms. Inbound packages delivered by certain couriers, including FedEx, UPS and Amazon, as well as large pallet deliveries, go directly to buildings. Large pallet items may need to be picked up at individual building loading docks and coordinated with individual carriers. The department should provide a full delivery address including room/suite number and phone number with orders as well as any special delivery instructions.

Outbound mail and small USPS packages may be left in ET or LD mailrooms for collection. All outbound mail and packages must have correct postage applied prior to dropping off.  Outbound shipping via UPS, FedEx or otherwise must be arranged with and coordinated directly with those vendors.

North Hall and the Sigma Theta Tau building are serviced by the local USPS office.

Please note, no signatory mail pieces will be released without capturing a signature. If the mail does not require the addressee only to sign, a designee will sign on the addressee’s behalf. In the event the carrier cannot locate a signature, the mail will be returned to IU mail operations.

Outbound USPS mail can also be dropped off at the Mail Service Center, 1430 Indiana Ave., or at any of the blue UPSP drop boxes located around campus.

Questions may be directed to Trina Clawson, category management manager, at tclawson@purdue.edu.
