WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University is calling all Boilermaker fans to join in celebrating those who play a vital role in shaping our future generations — our community educators. The Golden Hammer Educator Appreciation football game will take place Saturday, Aug. 31, which is Purdue’s season opener against Indiana State University.

Purdue — with the support of Purdue Athletics, the College of Education, the College of Health and Human Sciences, the Office of Engagement, and the Office of the First Lady — is proud to honor the hard work and support that community educators provide to area children and youth.

“Educators serve as the heart of our community, creating a solid foundation for knowledge while igniting students with a passion for learning,” said Kei Hui, the First Lady of Purdue, whose key initiatives include healthcare and early childhood education. “The Golden Hammer game is an opportunity to show our appreciation for the contributions of our great Indiana educators.”

In honor of their service, community nominees for Teacher of the Year and the Golden Apple Award as well as lead educators from early learning centers will receive a special on-field recognition during the game.

Eligible early childhood through high school educators in Tippecanoe County and the eight surrounding counties also received information on how to purchase discounted tickets to the game, available now through Aug. 30 or until tickets sell out. The event is a great opportunity for educators to relax, cheer on the Boilermaker football team and be recognized for their hard work by the community.

Game day offers fun activities for everyone! Purdue fans can head to Boilermaker Crossing at Weist Plaza, north of Mackey Arena, for a chance to win prizes and learn more about Purdue’s education programs and certificates. Boilermaker Crossing opens three hours prior to kickoff and is free to attend.

Visit the Purdue Athletics website for information about game-day ticket promotions and on-sale dates.
