This week’s ‘Thumbs Up’ recipients

Caitlin Zahn

Thank you, Caitlin (Finance), for taking the time to research and provide very thorough explanations on a complex issue. You are an enormous help! — Stacy Bogan (Political Science)

Lesa Beals

Lesa (Office of the Registrar) deserves a big thumbs up for all of her help in assisting our new Purdue University in Indianapolis students during the second and third weeks of classes. Lesa was a huge help when students needed to be reinstated into courses and when advisors needed assistance with registration issues. Lesa was likely busy with her own meetings, appointments and work, and instead of saying, “No, I cannot do this,” “Check back later,” or “Let’s talk about this tomorrow,” she always stepped in immediately to help without complaint or questioning. We saved several students’ academic circumstances in a positive and timely way due to her tremendous efforts! — Frank Robinson (University Undergraduate Academic Advising)

Crystal O’Neal

Crystal (Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging) went above and beyond to ensure a successful kickoff meeting of the Alliance for Degree and Research Acceleration in August. Due to multiple people being out of the office unexpectedly, Crystal coordinated travel for a dozen HBCU partners and managed on-site logistics for the daylong event largely on her own, all while finalizing details for an approximately 200-person dinner held the same night. Because of her efforts, we had a phenomenal initial meeting, and we are now off and running with our partner institutions. Her resilience, positive attitude and willingness to get the job done are all major assets to our office. — Christopher Munt (Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging)

Daniel Rudel

Sometimes I take for granted how awesome Dan (Sociology) is for me and all the sociology advisors, but he is such a great addition to the sociology department! He is so fast to answer emails and is always willing to work with us if we have any issues. Dan, I think I can speak for the other sociology advisors when I say that we are thankful to have you in your position! — Sarah Starks (College of Liberal Arts Counseling and Student Services)

Jim Warwick, Victor Lopez and Gregg Leibert

Jim, Victor and Gregg (all Building Services) dropped what they were doing to help vacuum a flood from a leaking water pipe. They prevented the flooding of a very important lab in the Physics Building. They were able to keep the flood contained until the zone crew could repair the large water leak. They cleaned up all the water after the leaking pipe was repaired. This saved the physics department from having lab equipment ruined. It’s great having them to lean on in an emergency. — Keith Schmitter (Physics and Astronomy)

Jim Dodge

Jim (Purdue Global Law School) enthusiastically took on teaching a seminar for a colleague who had a sudden emergency. Jim taught the seminar and forwarded the chat and transcript to help with participation credit. The students had a seamless experience despite the reality that life gives us, including faculty, emergencies. — Shaun Jamison (Purdue Global Law School)
