Carrum Health Benefit, OrthoIndy now providing total/partial joint replacements to Purdue employees

Human Resources – Benefits announces Carrum Health as the preferred provider of total/partial hip and knee replacement procedures for benefits-eligible Purdue employees and dependents age 18 and over covered on a Purdue medical plan.

Purdue’s Carrum Health Benefit provides a special surgery and medical benefit that provides enhanced coverage for certain planned procedures at participating Centers of Excellence. Through the Carrum Health Benefit, participants have access to specialized providers and facilities selected for their expertise in certain high-risk or high-cost procedures. For example, OrthoIndy’s commitment to quality care is recognized by leading health care rating organizations whose awards and rankings are based on patient outcomes.

“Since 2023 Purdue’s Carrum Health Benefit has been providing Centers of Excellence access for Purdue University staff for spinal fusion, bariatric, cardiac and orthopedic procedures,” said Candace Shaffer, associate vice president of benefits and payroll in Human Resources. “We are excited to expand this program to include total and partial hip and knee joint replacements through a partnership with OrthoIndy.”

In 2024 OrthoIndy was only one of 19 hospitals in the U.S. to be ranked in Healthgrades’ top 50 in both Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery and Outpatient Joint Replacement. OrthoIndy also was recognized by Healthgrades as No. 1 for Total Joint Replacement in the state for the second year in a row.

The Carrum Health Total/Partial Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program is a required program for all participants covered on a Purdue medical plan.
