Reminder: Sign up for PurdueALERT emergency text notifications for Indianapolis campus

Those working, attending classes and living at Purdue University in Indianapolis are encouraged to sign up for emergency text notifications.

The text notifications are part of PurdueALERT — the university’s emergency notification system. The system consists of multiple communication methods to help notify the campus community in the event of an emergency. Some of the other methods include all-hazard outdoor warning sirens, emails and the social platform X (@purdueemergency). PurdueALERT is also used to communicate campus operational status changes, including closings or delays due to winter weather.

Members of the Indianapolis campus community may also opt in for emergency texts for the West Lafayette campus. Members of the West Lafayette campus community may opt in to receive messages for the campus in Indianapolis.

“As the inaugural semester in Indianapolis continues, it’s becoming clearer that many individuals spend time on both campuses,” said Jefferson Howells, director of Emergency Preparedness. “We encourage all members of our West Lafayette and Indianapolis communities to sign up for these critical notifications as they are the best way for the university to share time-sensitive information.”

The Office of Emergency Preparedness is part of the Administrative Operations organization. The organization supports the university by providing safe, reliable and transformative services. Encouraging the campus communities to sign up for emergency notifications is just one of the ways the organization helps power Purdue.
