MaPSAC’s Hadley speaker series to present Daniels School’s Kate Zipay
The 2025 Richard A. Hadley Professional Development Series presentation, hosted by the Management and Professional Staff Advisory Committee (MaPSAC) and scheduled for March 7, will feature Dr. Kate Zipay, assistant professor of management in the Mitch Daniels School of Business.

The event, set for 1-2 p.m. ET will take place in Pfendler Hall of Agriculture, Room 241. An online option will also be available through Zoom. Registration is required for the virtual option, and registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. All university staff are welcome to attend with supervisor approval.
Zipay’s research explores how life outside of work shapes employee emotions and attitudes, along with contemporary issues of justice at work. Her research has been included in publications like Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Applied Psychology. In 2021 she was named one of Poets&Quants’ Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors, and she recently received the Daniels School’s Jay Ross Young Faculty Scholar Award.
Zipay will introduce the concept of intuitive working — a motivational approach inspired by intuitive eating, which encourages employees to align their work habits with their own needs and limits rather than external pressures. She will share practical tools and actionable insights to help employees craft a healthier, more balanced relationship with work. The goal? To leave workdays feeling pleasantly full rather than overwhelmed or burned out.
Backed by her research and a $50,000 grant from BetterUp’s Center for Purpose and Performance, Zipay and her collaborator Allison Gabriel, the Thomas J. Howatt Chair in Management and professor of management, are exploring how intuitive working helps employees make intentional choices about what work can be done in a sufficient and fulfilling way. Attendees of the presentation will discover how to end workdays feeling accomplished, energized and in control.
Questions for Zipay can be emailed in advance to mapsac-pd@purdue.edu. The discussion will be moderated to minimize interruptions during the event.
The Hadley Series is named for Richard A. Hadley, a Purdue alumnus and former employee who was a founding member of the Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee, the predecessor of MaPSAC. Hadley was a senior mechanical engineer at Purdue for nearly 25 years before his death in 1993. The Hadley series is presented each spring and is intended to provide career enrichment for university staff members.
The series is supported by the Richard Hadley Memorial MaPSAC Fund for Staff Development. Gifts to that fund, including gifts on the Purdue Day of Giving, will help continue the series.
