Tests of the PurdueALERT emergency warning notification system are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, in both West Lafayette and Indianapolis.

West Lafayette

In West Lafayette, the test will occur at 10:15 a.m. It will include text messaging, email, X (formerly Twitter) updates (@purdueemergency), digital signs, desktop pop-up alerts, Alertus beacons in classrooms and BoilerTV updates. The Campus Emergency Status webpage will be updated in the event of an actual emergency.

The all-hazards outdoor emergency warning sirens will not be activated for this test. During an actual campus emergency, the sirens mean to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building.

Indianapolis

The test for Indianapolis will occur at 10:30 a.m. and include text messaging and email. The Campus Emergency Status webpage will also be updated for the Indianapolis campus in the event of an actual emergency.

Purdue Polytechnic Institute locations

A test for CampusALERT will also be conducted at all Purdue Polytechnic Institute locations at 2 p.m. Jan. 29. The test will include an email to all campus community members.

“This will be the second round of tests for this academic year,” said Jefferson Howells, director of Emergency Preparedness. “Purdue is proactive in testing the PurdueALERT system during the fall and spring semesters. We want to ensure members of our campus communities know what to expect and how to respond, no matter what time of the year an emergency may occur.”

All students, faculty and staff on both campuses are encouraged to sign up for emergency text message notifications.

Emergency Preparedness is part of Administrative Operations. The organization supports the university by providing safe, reliable and transformative services. Ensuring members of the campus communities are prepared to react and respond during an emergency is just one of the ways the organization helps power Purdue.
