Annual Green Week includes sustainability events; campus community invited to attend

The Campus Planning, Architecture and Sustainability unit is once again celebrating Green Week. This year’s event will take place Oct. 22-28. Green Week is an annual initiative that helps promote and encourage sustainability efforts with fun activities and events.

The West Lafayette campus community – including students, faculty and staff – is invited to attend the events listed below. Registration is not required unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, Oct. 22

De-Trash the Wabash (Tippecanoe County Partnership for Water Quality). Join the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation to de-trash the Wabash River. Volunteers will pick up trash to help restore the health of the Wabash River. Transportation, breakfast, snacks and lunch will be provided. 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Lilly Hall of Life Sciences, Room 1105. Registration is required by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 14.

Monday, Oct. 24

Sustainability Education Table. Campus Planning, Architecture and Sustainability will be hosting a tabling event to engage with the campus community through sustainability-focused trivia and games. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Centennial Mall.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

Purdue Student Farm Experience. The Purdue Student Farm Organization will be hosting a workday at the farm where others can learn more about sustainable farming practices and how our food is grown. Hot drinks and food will be provided. 6 p.m., Purdue Student Farm (1491 Cherry Lane).

  • All attendees must wear closed-toe shoes.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring work gloves.
  • Registration is required by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 23.

Wednesday, Oct. 26

Tote Bag Painting With PSSC. Purdue Student Sustainability Council’s outreach committee is hosting a tote bag painting social event where PSSC members and newcomers can socialize and get to know each other better. 5-6 p.m., Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 1132.

Sustainability Summit. The 2022 Green Week Sustainability Summit will serve as an educational event for students, staff and faculty to learn about environmental initiatives on campus. Student organizations will also be sharing projects they are working on and have a space to form collaborations. 6-8 p.m., Stewart Center, Room 206.

Thursday, Oct. 27

Final Farmers Market. Come enjoy the final farmers market of the season! Enjoy lunch and pick up fresh produce or baked goods to take home. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Memorial Mall.

Friday, Oct. 28

Purdue Day of Service. The Purdue Day of Service is hosted by the Purdue for Life Foundation and supports the 1869 Tree Planting Master Plan and Sustainability Master Plan. This event will feature tree planting and beautification work throughout campus. 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Horticulture Park. Registration is currently full. Please check the event webpage for updates on available volunteer spots.

Sunday, Oct. 30

Boiler Green Initiative Campus Cleanup. Interested in a volunteering opportunity to help beautify campus and raise awareness about waste? Join the Boiler Green Initiative in an effort to remove trash on campus! Supplies will be provided. 1-3 p.m., Purdue Mall.
