Today's installment in the series about staff at the Center for Healthy Living introduces Jessica Green, one of four medical assistants at the center.

What's the medical assistant's role?

Medical assistants have many roles in that they perform both clinical and administrative duties. My main role is to assist my assigned primary care provider with anything and everything she needs. I greet patients and take them to the exam room. I obtain pertinent medical, surgical, family and social history and obtain the patient's vitals. I also assist with administrative duties, such as answering phones, charting, faxing and anything necessary for the patients and the care provider.

Why did you choose a career as a medical assistant?

I chose a career as a medical assistant because the health care field is where I have always wanted to work. I have lots of past administrative experience, so I felt that would be an asset to my career. I also chose this career because I love working with and helping people.

What attracted you to the Center for Healthy Living?

What attracted me to the Center for Healthy Living is the holistic approach the center is taking to care for a person as a whole, instead of just treating certain medical issues. I like the idea of teaching versus only healing.

What do you enjoy in your time away from the job?

In my free time away from work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, reading, swimming, boating, going to the racetrack, camping and just being outside as much as possible.
