Don't Miss It!
The hope embedded in higher education and in a new year, as well as in the quest for justice and dignity, is expressed admirably in "I Come From Women Who Could Fly," the title of a current exhibition by alumna Delita Martin. In all these ways, this can be a hopeful year. Don't Miss It!
JANUARY 11 and 12
Purdue's galleries are opening with such life that it seems almost like spring:
* "Sixty Square Inches: 18th North American Small Prints Exhibition" renews a biennial tradition in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center through Feb. 20. A reception and talk are at 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 14. Details
* "360 Degrees of Separation: Artists of the Guldagergaard Program" offers a look at a global range of ways of work in ceramics. This exhibition opens Jan. 12 at the Fountain Gallery, 330 Main St., Lafayette. A reception and talk are at 5:30-7 p.m. Jan 15. Details

* The Patti and Rusty Rueff Galleries in Pao Hall start the semester with two exhibitions for two weeks, Jan. 11-22: In the West Gallery, it's "I Come From Women Who Could Fly" with works by Delita Martin, alumna. In the East Gallery, it's "The Shades of Night Are Falling" with works by Brian Barr and Lauren Rice. Details

* Tennis will take turns on Jan. 16. The women get Butler at 9 a.m. and Ball State at 3 p.m. The men meet IUPUI at noon and some out-of-staters from Toledo at 6 p.m. On Jan. 17, the women go again, facing Eastern Michigan at 10 a.m. and IUPUI at 3 p.m. Women | Men

JANUARY 19
Purdue's Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will feature a keynote by the renowned Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. 7 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Details
JANUARY 21
The Purdue Jazz Festival heats up on its first night with the Community Showcase Concert featuring artist-in-residence trumpeter Rob Parton with high school jazz bands and Purdue Jazz Band. 7:30 p.m. Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Free. Details
JANUARY 22
Jazz lives as the Diva Jazz Orchestra with Sherrie Maricle headlines the Purdue Jazz Festival at 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details
