Nutrition Science starting cooking classes in March

The Department of Nutrition Science is bringing back its Eat Local cooking classes this semester, starting with a session on pizza in March.

All classes are led by senior students in the Department of Nutrition Science with a registered dietitian present. All classes will include instruction, hands-on cooking, tasting of all recipes, and a recipe booklet to take home. Participants are encouraged to bring containers in case there are leftovers.

Classes for this spring are:

March 8: The Perfect Pizza

This demonstration will offer something for all pizza lovers, from those who prefer plain cheese to supreme with extra pepperoni or even Hawaiian. The class will feature a variety of pizza toppings with tips on how to make traditional and unique pizza crusts.

April 5: Italian 101

In this class, participants will learn why olive oil is the cornerstone of most Italian cooking and that Italian cuisine is more than just spaghetti and meatballs. Participants will prepare, serve and enjoy Italian-themed recipes.

Participants must be over 18, and all experience levels are welcome. Classes will be held 5:30-7 p.m. in Lyles-Porter Hall Demo Kitchen, Room 1107. Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in the Harrison Street Parking Garage attached to Lyles-Porter Hall.

Classes are $20 each and are open to the public. More information and registration, which is required, can be found here. For more information, contact class coordinators Jessica Shellhorn (jshellho@purdue.edu) or Chelsea Shaffer (shaffec@purdue.edu).
