Office of Engagement presents annual faculty and staff awards

Purdue’s Office of Engagement named winners of the annual faculty and staff engagement awards for 2017 at a luncheon on April 12.

The honorees are:

* Stacey Connaughton, associate professor of communication, the Faculty Engagement Scholar Award. This award is given to an assistant or associate professor with an outstanding record of early achievement and a strong indication of future contributions to scholarly engagement.

* Hometown Collaboration Initiative (HCI), Purdue Center for Regional Development, the Corps of Engagement Award. This award is given to a team of faculty, staff, students and/or community stakeholders for outstanding partnership and achievement in engagement.

* Carla Johnson, professor of science education, the Faculty Engagement Fellow Award. This award is given to a full professor whose work has led to a sustained record of engagement.  

* Roy Ballard, Purdue Extensions educator, agriculture and natural resources, Hancock County; and Bill Bayley, director of Science Express, K-12 Chemistry Outreach. Both received the Staff Engagement Award. This award is given to a staff member who has collaborated in sustained synergistic partnerships within his or her community; embodies the scholarship of engagement, not only to strengthen Purdue, but also community partners; continually gives back, through community service, in order to improve the lives of others.

* Rod N. Williams, associate head of Purdue Extension and associate professor of wildlife science, the Service Learning Award. This award is given to a faculty member who demonstrates an impact on students and the community both in and out of the classroom, portrays consideration of and commitment to the needs of community partners and a long-term commitment to the service-learning community.

* Jill Newton, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, the Christian J. Foster Award. This award is given to a faculty member who has contributed to K-12 STEM -- science, technology, engineering and math -- education in Indiana.

* Mary Nauman, director of strategic initiatives at Purdue Research Foundation, and Sally Reasoner, vice president of talent identification at Ascend Indiana. Both received the Service to Engagement Award.
