Sigma Xi presents research and poster awards, inducts new members
The Purdue chapter of the scientific research honor society Sigma Xi held an annual banquet and new member induction on Wednesday (April 12) in Marriott Hall's John Purdue Room.
Special guest speaker Jay Melosh, Distinguished Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, gave a talk on “Purdue’s New Venture in Extraterrestrial Habitat Engineering.”
The chapter’s 2017 Research Awards were presented as follows:
* 2017 Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award: Peide Ye, the Richard J. and Mary Jo Schwartz Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
* 2016 Mid-Career Faculty Research Award: R. Claudio Aguilar, associate professor of biological sciences.
* 2017 Mid-Career Faculty Research Award: Ulrike Dydak, associate professor of health sciences.
Sigma Xi also inducted four new members: Gaurav Chopra (Chemistry), Alexander Chubykin (Biological Sciences), Tillman Kubis (Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Jing Pan (Mechanical Engineering).
At the banquet, Sigma Xi also recognized winners of the 2017 Graduate Student and Post-Doctoral Poster Competition. Winners were D. Nook Alongkronrusmee, Shirisha Chittiboyina, Joshua Hudson, Samuel Kissinger, Joseph Lynch, Shannon Pattenaude, Elizabeth Phillips, Kerri Rodrieguez, Tyler Spence, Shruthi Suresh, and Ning Xiang.
