Weekend offering variety of sports events

The Purdue football team and Illinois are set to square off at noon Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium in a battle for the Cannon trophy. The weekend also holds matchups for men's tennis, women's basketball, and men's and women's swimming and diving as well as spirit activities such as Boilermaker Crossing and concerts by the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band.

FRIDAY

Free Ride Fridays: The Purdue Reamer Club will continue the tradition of Free Ride Fridays for the 2017 football season. Each Friday before a home football game, the Boilermaker Special will offer free rides from noon to 3 p.m. in front of Stewart Center on Memorial Mall, weather permitting. Men's tennis: The Boilermakers host the three-day Old Gold & Black Classic at Schwartz Tennis Center. The event is free. Men's tennis

Swimming and diving (women and men): The Boilermakers continue their fall semester homestand when they host Iowa at 5 p.m. at Burke Aquatic Center. The event is free. Women | Men

SATURDAY

Men's tennis: The Boilermakers hold the second day of the Old Gold & Black Classic at Schwartz Tennis Center. The event is free. Men's tennis

Boilermaker Crossing: Purdue fans can win prizes, play on inflatable games and more at the family-friendly Boilermaker Crossing at 9-11:30 a.m. at Weist Plaza north of Mackey Arena. The event is free and open to the public.

Team arrival: Welcome the Boilermaker team to campus at the northeast corner of Ross-Ade Stadium. The event will start at 9:45 a.m., and will feature a pep band, giveaways, Purdue Pete and the cheerleaders and the Boilermaker Special.

Thrill on the Hill: The Purdue “All-American” Marching Band, a part of Purdue Bands & Orchestras, will perform a pre-game concert at 10:30 a.m. at Slayter Center.

Purdue football vs. Illinois (Family Day/Salute to Service): The Boilermakers welcome Illinois for a noon kickoff at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Post-game concert: The Purdue “All-American” Marching Band will march shortly after the game to the front of Hovde Hall and perform there.

SUNDAY

Men's tennis: The Boilermakers hold the third and final day of the Old Gold & Black Classic at Schwartz Tennis Center. The event is free. Men's tennis

 

Women's basketball: The women's team takes on University of St. Francis in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. at Mackey Arena. Tickets: $5-$10; "Celebrate Sunday" package available. Women's basketball
