Pappy's to celebrate Food Madness win with discounted sundaes

Pappy's Sweet Shop will celebrate its victory in Food Management website's 2018 College Food Madness with a special offer to customers.

Pappy's will offer half off its signature sundaes April 23-27. Print coupons are being distributed this week at Pappy's on the ground floor of Purdue Memorial Union and at Harrison Grill in Harrison Hall, where half-off sundaes also will be served.

The discount is being presented in celebration of Pappy's win in 2018 College Food Madness, a March Madness-style bracket featuring all-star dishes from 16 different universities. Food Management is a national trade publication that features trends, practices, products and solutions that connect with the noncommercial food service professional.

Winners of each matchup were determined by votes cast on Food Management's website. After winning matchups with dishes from West Virginia, Villanova and Kansas, Pappy's sundaes garnered 52 percent of the vote to defeat Ohio State for this year's title.

"We're excited to offer this discount as a way to say thanks for the pride Boilermakers showed in a Purdue tradition with their votes," says Greg Minner, director of Purdue Dining & Catering.

The origin of the sundaes served at Pappy's can be traced to 1910, when students and visitors would visit the Purdue University Creamery and purchase ice cream on campus. Although the creamery is no longer around, its ice cream recipe lives on through the ice cream served at Pappy's.
