Purdue to receive Toastmasters' Corporate Recognition Award

Toastmasters International will recognize Purdue for enhancing employee engagement through continued support of the Toastmasters program at a presentation of the Corporate Recognition Award on Friday (April 20). Don Bittick, international director at Toastmasters International, will present the award at 2 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 110.

Purdue supports Tecumseh Club, Donald A. Campbell Lafayette, Krannert Graduate, Toastmasters at Purdue, and Greater Lafayette Area Communicators in West Lafayette. Purdue employees and students participate in Toastmasters clubs to develop and strengthen their communication and leadership skills in a supportive setting.

“Purdue University has been a tremendous support to Toastmasters International, in the way of offering facilities for training initiatives and providing meeting space for five clubs,” Bittick says. “We appreciate all the University does to encourage Toastmasters members in their personal and professional development.”

Toastmasters International teaches its Purdue club members a variety of communication and leadership skills that are useful in the workplace, including how to:

* Conduct effective meetings.
* Practice time management.
* Enhance listening skills.
* Sharpen presentation skills.
* Boost team collaboration.
* Guide successful teams.

“Toastmasters has partnered with Purdue University for many years, helping members of our community to think clearly, listen carefully, and speak effectively,” says Mike Piggott, Purdue’s director of community relations. “We are proud of our association and look forward to many more years of collaboration.”

There are nine Toastmasters clubs in Tippecanoe County: Tecumseh Club, Donald A. Campbell Lafayette, Krannert Graduate, Toastmasters at Purdue, Greater Lafayette Area Communicators, Top of the Morning, Hanna Center, Tippecanoe Talkers, and ToastCATsters.
