A newly opening exhibition by Purdue Libraries highlights the physical growth and evolution of the University's West Lafayette campus from its establishment in 1869. The exhibition, "Building Purdue: 150 Years of the West Lafayette Campus," is on display today (Aug. 27) through Dec. 14. Other pleasant and insightful events are coming as the semester builds up. AUGUST 29
The Discovery Park Distinguished Lecture Series will bring Robert O. Work, former deputy secretary of defense, to speak about the administration's recent defense planning document. Work's lecture is titled "The New National Defense Strategy: Pursuing 'Urgent Change at Significant Scale.'" 11 a.m.-noon. Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121.
The exhibition "Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly" will have a reception and panel discussion of the very timely issues raised for three decades by this movement. 5:30 p.m. Black Cultural Center. (The Purdue University Galleries exhibition is at the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center through Sept. 22. It is here in conjunction with Convocations' show of Sept. 13.)

SEPTEMBER 5
The drama "Mother of the Dark Water" will explore archetypal issues as five black women take up the interpretive challenge of Black Madonnas to Christianity and feminism. 7 p.m. STEW, Fowler Hall. Free.
SEPTEMBER 9
Picnic with the Purduettes, an annual early fall tradition, will combine outdoor air and delightful harmonies from the women's vocal ensemble. 6 p.m. Slayter Center. Audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on and a picnic to eat.
