Nominations sought for Violet Haas Award

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence is seeking nominees for the 2017-18 Violet Haas Award. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 22.

The award recognizes individuals, programs or departments at Purdue that have facilitated the advancement of women in hiring, promotion, education and salary, or have enhanced a positive professional climate for women at the University.

Criteria for the award include a demonstration of the breadth and impact of the nominee's accomplishments within and beyond the responsibilities of his/her position; a demonstration of the nominee's noteworthy efforts on behalf of women faculty, staff and/or students at Purdue; and examples of the nominee's efforts on behalf of women outside of Purdue (if applicable). The nominee's length of service at Purdue and time period of accomplishments also will be considered.

To nominate someone for the award, the following should be submitted:

* A nomination letter up to three pages in length.
* A maximum of two letters of support.
* The nominee's resume, condensed to two pages in length and highlighting accomplishments and efforts meeting the award criteria.

Nomination packets as a PDF or Word file may be uploaded here. For more information, contact butlercenter@purdue.edu.

Award recipients will be officially recognized during a reception on Dec. 6.

The award is named for Violet Haas, an electrical engineering professor from 1962 to 1986, who was instrumental in the early development of the Purdue chapter of the Society of Women Engineers.

The Violet Haas Award was established in 1990 by the Council on the Status of Women, an organization that sought to provide a voice for all women at Purdue. In 2011, CSW disbanded and passed the legacy of the Violet Haas Award on to the Butler Center so that Purdue may continue to honor those working to support women in higher education.
