Purdue Engineering to showcase its online offerings

Working engineers and STEM professionals seeking to further their educations have looked to distance learning options offered by Purdue Engineering for more than 60 years. Now the College of Engineering is showcasing for everyone -- including current staff, faculty and students -- what it has to offer online today.

On Oct. 9-12, the college's unit newly named "Purdue Online Learning, College of Engineering" is collaborating with others to present a series of events plus an exhibition to highlight ongoing and new dimensions in its lifelong learning opportunities. Events will be in Wang Hall.

The leadoff event will feature opening remarks by President Mitch Daniels and remarks about the college and online learning by Mung Chiang, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering. The event will be at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in Wang Hall, Room 2599.

Purdue Engineering's online goal is "Achieving the Pinnacle of Excellence at Scale" by enabling lifelong learning and empowering working professionals globally. Its team facilitates graduate degrees, certificate programs, and continuing education classes combining the quality of a Purdue education with the flexibility and custom fit of online studies. The online master’s in engineering program is consistently ranked among the top five by U.S. News & World Report.

For the celebratory week, Purdue Online Learning, College of Engineering is collaborating with the University's overall Purdue Online Learning unit, ITaP and its Teaching and Learning Technologies section, Engineering faculty, the Engineering Computer Network and others.

Engineering's online unit, formerly known as the Division of Engineering Professional Education, and before as Continuing Engineering Education, has evolved to embrace both advancing the college's goals and being an integral and valued partner of the university-level Purdue Online Learning.
