Faculty, staff and graduate students have the opportunity to host a career exploration class at 4-H Round-Up on June 25.

4-H Round-Up, coordinated by Purdue Extension’s State 4-H Office, will bring more than 500 seventh- through ninth-grade youth to Purdue’s campus this summer. For more than 100 years, attending 4-H Round-Up has given Indiana youth a look at Purdue student life and provided a recruiting opportunity for departments across the University.

Hosting a 45-minute hands-on career exploration class for 4-H Round-Up attendees allows faculty, staff and graduate students to interact with prospective students and to provide a glimpse into their department and field of expertise. Round-Up career exploration classes should be hands-on and engaging.

"A hands-on experience in a college classroom can help a young person discover an interest, decide to study it more closely, and ultimately pursue a career related to that subject," says Renee McKee, 4-H Youth Development Program leader and Cooperative Extension Service assistant director. "Pairing an excerpt from a lecture with hands-on activities creates an engaging career exploration class and provides youth with a memorable first impression of a department."

To host a career exploration class, visit purdue.ag/4hexpcareer and return the registration form to Jenny Clark at jenny@purdue.edu by April 1.
