Center for Healthy Living workshop to focus on being active at work, improving health

Fitness in the workplace? Why not? The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus is offering a “Be Active at Work” workshop to help individuals learn more about how to stay active and move more throughout the day without having to leave the office.

Led by Cheryl Laszynski, registered nurse health coach at the Center for Healthy Living, the workshop will meet from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. July 16 at the Córdova Recreational Sports Center, known as the Co-Rec, in the Large Conference Room.

“Sedentary jobs have been linked to increasing the chances of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and more,” Laszynski says. “You don’t have to overthink it or make it difficult -- becoming more active at work can be very simple. For instance, getting up to move around, stretch or take a short walk provides endless benefits. Walking the extra few feet to the restroom farthest away, getting your coffee on a different floor, walking to see colleagues rather than emailing or calling and having walking meetings are a few easy ways to add a little more movement to your work day.”

Those interested should register by July 15 via the Healthy Boiler Portal. The registration link can be found under the "Engage" tab, then under "Wellness Events" on the portal’s homepage.

Workshops provided by the Center for Healthy Living are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.

Questions can be directed to the Center for Healthy Living at 765-494-0111.
