Winner of Peacebuilding Big Idea Challenge to be named Friday on livestream

A Purdue University livestreamed announcement at 1 p.m. Friday (May 10) will reveal the winner of the worldwide Peacebuilding Big Idea Challenge, awarding $10,000 for the idea judged to have the most potential to reduce armed conflict and foster peace.

The challenge is the first initiative of the Purdue Peace Project, housed in the Purdue Policy Research Institute, and is co-sponsored by the Alliance for Peacebuilding. The challenge is funded by Milt Lauenstein, a Purdue alumnus, business leader and promoter of world peace.

Friday’s announcement will be at kaltura.com/tiny/y8niw, PPRI announced in a tweet carrying the hashtag #peacebuilding. During the livestream, Lauenstein will share a few words on video. The winning idea and its creator will be presented live by Stacey Connaughton, director of the Purdue Peace Project, and Liz Hume, former president of Alliance for Peacebuilding. Connaughton is also an associate professor in Purdue’s Brian Lamb School of Communication, a part of the College of Liberal Arts.

According to PPRI, initial submissions came from academia, peace institutions and everyday citizens around the world. The 10 best submissions were invited to submit full proposals.

Additional information is in a Purdue news release that announced the challenge.
