CIE and Teaching Academy to explore teaching, learning through reading groups for faculty

The Teaching Academy and the Center for Instructional Excellence are inviting faculty to join Purdue's teaching and learning reading groups in the fall semester. These reading groups will bring together faculty from around the campus in small groups to discuss how recent books about the classroom and teaching and learning may inform what they do.

For the fall semester, participants will choose from two options (all meetings from 1:30 to 3 p.m.):

* Tuesdays: Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3. The group will read "Enhancing Learning through the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: The Challenges and Joys of Juggling" by Kathleen McKinney.

* Thursdays: Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. The group will read "Engaging Students as Partners in Learning and Teaching: A Guide for Faculty" by Allison Cook-Sather, Catherine Bovill and Peter Felten

Participants will read these books over the course of the semester, meeting once each month to discuss the ideas, theories and application for this semester and in the future.

Faculty who would like to participate during fall 2019 should fill out an online survey by Sept. 4, providing information about themselves.

Those who cannot make it this semester but are interested in faculty reading and learning communities, or who have suggestions for future books/topics, should contact Dan Guberman at dguberma@purdue.edu.
