Civil engineering professor to testify today at congressional hearing
Darcy Bullock, the Lyles Family Professor of Civil Engineering and director of the Joint Transportation Research Program at Purdue, will testify at 2 p.m. today (July 11) before the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology's Subcommittee on Research and Technology.
Bullock’s testimony, “Bumper to Bumper: The Need for a National Surface Transportation Agenda,” will discuss how sensors on modern vehicles provide a rich data source for transportation agencies, and in many cases the vehicles know more about the specific condition of roadway traffic conditions and infrastructure than operating agencies do. Bullock will discuss Indiana Department of Transportation and Purdue’s work partnering with the automotive industry to incorporate these new data sources into agency operating and investment decisions.
Indiana Rep. Jim Baird (Ind.-4, representing West Lafayette) is the ranking member of the subcommittee. Opening statements will be presented by Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Michigan) and Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas).
Testimony will be streamed live online.
