Graduate School’s Mohler named research integrity officer

James Mohler James Mohler

James Mohler, professor of computer graphics technology and associate dean of the Graduate School, has been named Purdue's research integrity officer, effective July 1.

Mohler succeeds Deborah Rupp, who has served in the role since January 2016. Rupp, the William C. Byham Chair in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, has accepted a faculty position at George Mason University. Rupp and Mohler will work together in a co-RIO arrangement through Aug. 23 to insure a smooth transition of the position.

“Jamie Mohler brings years of research and administrative experience to the role of RIO,” said Jay Akridge, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity.  “I’m confident our research enterprise will continue to be held to high standards of conduct and integrity under his leadership. I’d like to thank the search advisory committee for their work in supporting this successful search. And I want to acknowledge the outstanding work of Deborah Rupp in leading our Research Integrity Office over the past three and a half years.”

Members of the search committee were:

  • Chris Agnew, associate vice president for research, EVPRP (chair).
  • Voichita Dadarlat, assistant vice president for research, EVPRP.
  • Birgit Kaufman, professor of mathematics and physics.
  • Jay McCann, professor of political science.
  • Andrew Weiner, the Scifres Family Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Mohler is a Purdue University faculty scholar, a member of the Purdue University Teaching Academy and a past faculty fellow for the Discovery Learning Center and Owen and Tarkington residence halls. As a member of Purdue’s ADVANCE team, he has served as a diversity catalyst for the last two years. Mohler is also a guest professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China.

Mohler began his academic career in 1994 and was promoted to professor in 2009. Past administrative roles include senior research scientist of multimedia and web development in Information Technology at Purdue (2002-03); director of the ITaP Informatics Group (2003-05); assistant department head, CGT (2008-09); associate department head, CGT (2009-11); interim associate dean for graduate programs, Purdue Polytechnic Institute (2011); associate dean of academic affairs and diversity, Polytechnic (2011-15); interim director of the Division of Interdisciplinary Technology Studies, Polytechnic (2015).
