Purdue seeking comments as part of accreditation process

Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part as Purdue continues preparation for accreditation review.

Once every 10 years, the University is asked to take a comprehensive look at itself — to assess its programs and operations in preparation for a review for reaccreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. Purdue, which has been accredited continually since 1913, was last reviewed and fully accredited during 2009-10.

The University's report document is now open for comment by the University community. Go to http://purdue.edu/provost/hlc to see the document, provide comments and learn more about the accreditation process. The document, which will be provided to HLC before its team's campus visit, will be open for comment through Aug. 28.

The report document includes an introduction and chapters on each of the specific criterion areas on which Purdue must report. Those areas are:

Mission: The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations.

Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct: The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible.

Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support: The institution provides high quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered.

Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement: The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments, and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement.

Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness: The institution’s resources, structures, and processes are sufficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities. The institution plans for the future.

The HLC review team, composed of eight peer reviewers, will be on campus Oct. 14-15. While on campus, the team will conduct meetings with University administrators, faculty, staff and students as well as conduct drop-in sessions for those who wish to take part.
