Purdue RecWell app now available for download
The new Purdue RecWell app created by Recreation & Wellness is now available for download on iPhone and Android. Over 1,200 students downloaded the app in the first week.
"The digital upbringing of this generation of students – dubbed Gen Z or iGen – has changed the way Recreation & Wellness does business," says Mike Warren, director of Recreation & Wellness. "Gen Z expects things to be frictionless, immediate and convenient. They are accustomed to communicating online and favor an online experience that’s easy to navigate. For them, an online engagement tool that allows for speed and ease of use is not just nice to have; it’s critical."
The app lists available hours for all facilities and lists group schedules by day, allowing users to reserve their spot in a class. There is a direct link to intramural leagues. Users will be able to register for additional programs, scan bar codes for RecWell access, and purchase amenities like lockers and towel service.
The app also allows for the opportunity to leave an online comment card and purchase or renew membership, and provides a new option to enter the Córdova Recreational Sports Center if a student forgets an ID.
With the launch of the Steps to Leaps initiative -- led by Beth McCuskey, vice provost of student life -- well-being is being recognized as a top priority for Purdue students. Users will have quick access to many programs promoting well-being, including programs, links, and ads that highlight experiences in mindful meditation, wellness coaching, financial wellness, fitness, aquatics, climbing and challenge, intramurals and club sports.
"Through this avenue, we can provide options for every Purdue student and staff member to pursue active, healthy lifestyles," Warren says.
The app is supported by the FusionGo software used by the center. Faculty and staff are eligible to purchase a membership for as $31 per month.
