Three new officers sworn in by the Purdue University Police Department

The Purdue University Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony for three new officers on Monday (Jan. 13). Officers William Dorsey, Michael Burrell and Grant Wiley were joined by family and other members of local law enforcement agencies as they began their services to the Purdue community.

Dorsey is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) and served four years in the Lafayette Police Department. He graduated from Purdue in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is currently working on completing his MBA through the University of Southern Indiana. 

Burrell is a graduate of ILEA and has been in the Indianapolis Airport Authority Police Department since 2017. Burrell also has served as a reserve officer in the Brownsburg Police Department since 2015. He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing and public relations from Ball State University in 1998 and has been working on his graduate degree. 

Wiley is a graduate of ILEA and comes to Purdue from the Ball State University Police Department. He graduated from Purdue in December 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in law and society. Wiley is well-known within PUPD because of his work with the Purdue Student Security Patrol Program during his time as a student.

“We are excited and fortunate to have this trio of ILEA-certified police officers coming to our department,” said PUPD Chief John Cox. “Their knowledge and experience will be a contributing factor to the ongoing success of our department.”

Officers Dorsey, Burrell and Wiley will begin field training immediately. The goal is to have them patrolling on their own by the end of the semester.
