Several new facilities and construction projects are now complete and open for the start of the fall semester. As classes get underway for the 2020-21 academic year, construction on other projects and maintenance and repair work is still ongoing.

OPEN

Chaney-Hale Hall of Science: Previously referred to as the STEM Teaching Lab Building, Chaney-Hale Hall of Science is now open. The facility includes state-of-the-art, student-focused laboratories and serves undergraduates across all colleges.

Griffin Residence Hall North and Meredith Residence Hall South: Two new residence halls – Griffin Residence Hall North and Meredith Residence Hall South – are open for the start of the fall semester. The residence halls are a result of a public-private partnership and add 1,300 new beds to the West Lafayette campus. Meredith Residence Hall South is located south of the existing Meredith Residence Hall and north of First Street, and Griffin Residence Hall North is located northeast of the existing Griffin Residence Hall South (formerly Third Street Suites).

Union Club Hotel: The $35 million renovations for the Union Club Hotel are now complete, and the hotel has reopened. New dining options – 8Eleven Restaurant, Boiler Up Bar and Leaps Coffee – are also open and ready to serve the public.

Third Street Pedestrian Mall: Walkways, a bicycle path and Purdue-themed graphics are key features of the new Third Street Pedestrian Mall. As a result of the project, the section of Third Street from Martin Jischke Drive to University Street is closed to vehicular traffic, except that Russell Street traffic can cross Third Street. The mall is now open to pedestrians, but as project work nears completion, those using the mall should be alert for changing pedestrian traffic patterns.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building Renovation and Addition: Equipment installation and interior finishes continue for the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building Renovation and Addition. When complete in December, the facility will include new research and teaching labs, active learning classrooms, a café and renovated administrative space.

College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital: Construction continues just east of Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine on a new small animal hospital, an equine hospital and a farm animal hospital for the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall (Engineering and Polytechnic Gateway): Foundation construction at the site of the new Engineering and Polytechnic Gateway facilities, formally named Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall, is now underway. As a result, truck traffic may increase near Grant Street and Northwestern Avenue. Construction will continue through fall 2022.

Hagle Hall: Hagle Hall will bring together various ensembles, percussion, concert bands, and jazz bands by providing rehearsal and support space for Purdue Bands & Orchestras. The new facility will be located at the intersection of Third and Russell streets. Demolition at the site is set to start in September with construction to follow. The project is scheduled to be complete in summer 2022.

Purdue Memorial Union Ground Floor Renovation: Renovations for the ground floor of Purdue Memorial Union will improve retail dining spaces and options. The closure of current dining locations will last through January 2022, when the renovation project is expected to be complete. Access continues to remain available to the Purdue Team Store; Evans, Piggott, and Finney Eye Care Group; UPS; and Fidelity.

Newman Road Underpass Widening: A newly constructed roundabout at S.R. 26 and Newman Road, located just west of U.S. 231, is open. Newman Road at Allison Road and Benson Drive is also open. The section of Newman Road near the underpass will continue to be closed through the fall. Access will be maintained to the Purdue Technology Center Aerospace building.

In addition to these projects, the Purdue Research Foundation has ongoing work along West State Street for the Continuum building and near U.S. 231 and Airport Road for Provenance.

The Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building is a new facility on the Hammond campus of Purdue University Northwest, containing research and teaching labs and offices for the College of Nursing and Department of Biological Sciences. Construction was completed in April and the building is now open.

Construction alerts and updates will continue to be posted on the Physical Facilities construction and travel notices webpage, where an interactive online construction map is also available.
