Rapoport, Churchill receive Purdue’s Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Awards
On the occasion of International Education Week on Nov. 16-20, Purdue’s Office of Global Partnerships (OGP) and Global Academic Committee (GAC) are announcing the recipients of this year's Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Awards: Anatoli Rapoport, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, and Jill Churchill, associate program administration specialist in Global Engineering Programs and Partnerships.
These university-level awards are given annually to recognize one staff member and one faculty member for their dedicated efforts to increase Purdue’s global recognition as a leader in higher education. Globalization in this context is defined as developing, facilitating and sustaining programs and activities in partnership with universities, agencies and private-sector constituents outside the United States that further Purdue’s institutional strategic goals embodied in Purdue Moves. Specifically, the awards recognize exceptional endeavors that involve faculty and/or students from Purdue and international counterparts in learning, discovery and/or engagement.
In support of Rapoport’s nomination, Kathryn M. Obenchain, associate dean for learning, engagement and global initiatives in the College of Education and professor of social studies education, said, “Dr. Rapoport is an internationally recognized leader and scholar in the field of global citizenship education, and has created multiple opportunities linking Purdue and various European nations, whether that be through his study abroad programs or grants bringing European educators and youth to Purdue. Purdue and the College of Education benefit from his work and commitment to globalization.”
George T.C. Chiu, assistant dean for global engineering programs in the College of Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering, spoke highly of Churchill: “Jill has had an immense impact on students, faculty, parents, and her colleagues alike. She works tirelessly to expand the scope and reach of the College of Engineering’s Study Abroad Programs as well as representing and promoting Purdue Engineering’s presence in international study abroad communities.”
2021 nominations
The OGP and GAC are now accepting faculty and staff nominations for the 2021 Outstanding Leadership in Globalization Awards for impact relevant to any or all of the academic mission categories of learning, discovery and engagement. These monetary awards are open to all categories of full-time University faculty and staff members.
Following the existing procedures for administering these faculty and staff awards, each college may submit up to three nominations for each award (i.e., three for faculty and three for staff) by Feb. 15. OGP will collect and submit up to three at-large nominations for both faculty and staff not associated with a particular college.
These awards were created to further reinforce the importance of the global outreach undertaken by Purdue faculty and staff. The awards demonstrate the institution’s commitment to the Purdue Moves initiatives of promoting world-changing research and transformative education, for the benefit of the entire Purdue community of faculty, staff and students as well as stakeholders abroad.
