Purdue to host 'Weeks of Welcome'
Purdue will celebrate the return of the residential campus experience this fall by highlighting the first six weeks of student events and programming through Homecoming. This collaborative effort includes departments and areas from Student Life, Diversity and Inclusion, and Teaching and Learning as well as the expansive group of more than 1,000 recognized student organizations.
Known as “Purdue Weeks of Welcome,” the events will kick off a return to the vibrant extracurricular experiences generations of Boilermakers have come to enjoy. The culmination of "Purdue Weeks of Welcome" will be the University’s celebration of Homecoming, scheduled for Oct. 1-3.
Highlighted events include:
- During the first week of classes, Memorial Mall will be the site of the outlandish spectacle of Squonk Opera’s unique combination of post-progressive rock and oversized theatrical antics in "Hand to Hand." This presentation by Purdue Convocations on Aug. 25-26 will feature four performances over two days.
- During the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5, the Diverse Student Organization Council, featuring student leaders from all of Purdue’s cultural centers, will present a dynamic collection of more than 10 activities that will connect, engage and promote the powerful connections and services provided for Purdue students.
- Leading up to Homecoming, the Purdue Student Union Board will present a special Homecoming Open Mic event in which student talent takes the spotlight in a feature to animate the Third Street corridor.
Campus units and recognized student organizations promoting events on social media during the first six weeks of the semester are encouraged to use the hashtag #PurdueWOW to make events easily searchable for students. A webpage has been created that will collect all posts using #PurdueWOW into a centralized space that can also be shared with students in campuswide communication efforts.
The Protect Purdue Health Center will continue to guide the University’s approach to campus operations and events this fall. Guidance related to health and visitor policies, mask usage, occupancy levels and more may evolve over time. The Purdue community is encouraged to stay current with the plans for Fall 2021 on the Protect Purdue website.
