Student panelists sought for Community Standards Board
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) is recruiting new student panelists for the Community Standards Board on the West Lafayette campus.
This board is responsible for hearing the most serious cases, both academic and nonacademic, that OSRR is responsible for adjudicating that may result in the suspension or expulsion of a student. The board is composed of faculty, staff and students (both undergraduate and graduate) from across campus who work together to make outcome recommendations that are best for the charged student as well as the community in response to reported concerns.
For all panelists, this is a low time commitment and requires a panelist to participate in only one board hearing per school year after participating in a one-time training. Caitlyn Buchanan, senior student affairs specialist, says that serving on the board is a great opportunity for students who may be interested in pursuing careers in law, criminology, psychology and education, or for students wanting to get more experience developing their critical thinking skills and learning to work with a variety of people to come to those decisions.
OSRR is hoping to recruit multiple new student panelists for the Spring 2022 semester and welcomes applicants from across campus. OSRR strives to have many diverse perspectives on the panel hearings so as to make the most informed decisions. To learn more and apply, visit the Community Standards Board webpage.
Faculty and staff who know a student that would make a great panelist but who needs some extra encouragement to apply are encouraged to submit a recommendation form. A member of the OSRR team will reach out to the student individually to encourage them to apply.
