March 22 is Diabetes Alert Day; Purdue offers many resources to assist individuals
Diabetes Alert Day is observed each year on the fourth Tuesday in March – this year, March 22 – as a wake-up call that focuses on the seriousness of Type 2 diabetes and the importance of individuals understanding their risks. Purdue offers many resources to assist those with Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes.
The following programs and resources are available through the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus:
Health coaching – Health coaching is a confidential and supportive partnership between an individual and the health coach, and can be an effective way to motivate and encourage behavior change to help meet wellness goals. Health coaches are available on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus and Purdue’s Fort Wayne campus; appointments can be held virtually or in-person.
Registered dietitian services – Dietitian services are offered through CHL and will help develop a plan of action for nutritional changes that could improve health, taking into consideration the individual’s wants, needs and medical conditions.
HealthKick – HealthKick is a six-week virtual education program that addresses physical activity, nutrition, creating healthy habits and decreasing stress. The goal of this program is to increase education surrounding nutrition and develop healthy habits to last a lifetime. The next session will take place May 2 through June 10. Registration is due by April 18 via the Healthy Boiler Portal.
Medication therapy management (MTM) – MTM is offered through the pharmacists at CHL and provides assistance to those using multiple medications such as identifying drug interactions, helping with side effects and more.
