Purdue contributors recognized at United Way annual meeting and awards celebration
Partnerships, community impact and positive change were celebrated during United Way of Greater Lafayette’s 2024 annual meeting and awards celebration Jan. 24 at the River City Community Center in Lafayette.
The event celebrated the efforts of local organizations and individuals toward the 2023 campaign and the United Way organization. Multiple awards recognized the Purdue community and individuals across campus for their contributions:
- Purdue received an Award of Merit in the organizations with 500-plus employees category, for surpassing its $700,000 campaign goal, increasing the number of campaign donors and establishing the largest local campaign for employee giving.
- John Gates, vice provost for diversity, inclusion and belonging, was recognized for his service, oversight and governance on United Way of Greater Lafayette’s board of directors.
- Lisa Duncan, director of nonprofit engagement, received the 2023 Campaign Individual Rookie of the Year Award.
- Roberto Gallardo, vice president for engagement, was approved to serve on United Way of Greater Lafayette’s board of directors.
- President Mung Chiang and First Lady YingKei Hui received the Board President Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in moving United Way forward.
“United Way of Greater Lafayette is such a tremendous asset to the community,” Gallardo said. “We are honored and privileged to be able to partner with them on improving the quality of life in our community.”
Purdue and United Way share a long history of collaboration and community impact. Today, the Purdue community collectively raises one of the largest campaigns in the community to benefit local agencies through United Way of Greater Lafayette.
“We are so fortunate to have a steadfast core of committed leaders who consistently guide us toward building a stronger and more resilient community,” said Jennifer Million, chief operating officer of United Way of Greater Lafayette.
The 2023 Purdue United Way goal of $700,000 was an elevation to pre-pandemic level. The Purdue United Way team thanks Purdue faculty and staff for their remarkable and unwavering commitment to the community and those who need United Way of Greater Lafayette’s services.
