Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- “Cybersecurity Myths and Misconceptions: Avoiding the Hazards and Pitfalls that Derail Us,” written by Eugene H. Spafford, professor of computer science in the College of Science, and co-authors Josiah Dykstra and Leigh Metcalf, has been selected for the Cybersecurity Canon Hall of Fame. Books selected for the hall of fame must “explore a cybersecurity topic deeply, reference historical activities and themes, and have implications for the future of cybersecurity practitioners. … the book must rise to the level of being required reading for anyone who wants to become an expert in the cybersecurity profession.”

- Catherine (Cammie) McBride, professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science and associate dean for research in the Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences, is the recipient of a 2024 Khalifa International Award for Early Learning Field in the best research and studies category from the United Arab Emirates.

Elliot Friedman, the William and Sally Berner Hanley Professor of Gerontology in the Department of Human Development and Family Science in the Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences, has been elected as a 2024 Fellow of the Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine (formerly named the American Psychosomatic Society). This is the highest membership status in the society, recognizing sustained excellence in scholarship and/or professional contributions to the field of psychosomatic science and commitment to the Society of Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine among members who are mid-career and beyond.

- Megan Purcell, clinical associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science in the Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences, was awarded the 2024 Hoosier Educator Award for Higher Education by the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children. The award recognizes educators who have demonstrated the exemplary development of learning experiences, materials or curricula for instructing preservice or in-service teachers of young children.
