No-cost medication therapy management access expanded for Purdue health plans

Access to medication therapy management (MTM), which is already in place and available via the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on the West Lafayette campus, now has expanded access via participating community pharmacies and Clarest℠ Health. MTM services are available to benefits-eligible employees and covered dependents on a Purdue health plan. There is no cost for MTM services.

Individuals may receive calls from Clarest Health, a third-party calling on behalf of Purdue University, to review their current medications. The calls are legitimate and are made to help increase the effectiveness of this expanded service.

As part of the expanded MTM access, participating pharmacies can provide targeted medication check-ins during prescription fills (no appointment needed) as well as comprehensive medication review appointments with a pharmacy team member. These services are designed to provide more detailed medication and health education than what is typically provided during visits to a pharmacy to help resolve any medication-related needs identified by the pharmacist.

During MTM, a pharmacist will discuss:

  • The purpose of each medication
  • Goals of therapy (e.g., blood pressure levels)
  • Possible medication side effects
  • Risks of interactions among any current medications
  • Affordable medication options
  • Other topics customized to the individual’s needs

See the Purdue University Pharmacy’s video for examples of what can take place during MTM.

MTM services can help individuals optimize their medications – from finding more affordable options to learning how to use a newly prescribed medication – when time with a primary care physician or pharmacist might be limited. This expansion to the MTM services provides dedicated time for individuals to spend reviewing medications in detail to ensure they are getting the most out of them. MTM services also help individuals take a more active role in their health and wellness and the management of their prescriptions and medications.

Individuals can receive brief medication check-ins when picking up prescriptions at these in-network pharmacies that are contracted to provide both check-ins (again, no appointment needed) and medication reviews by appointment. Individuals who do not use any of the pharmacies on the list and do not want to change pharmacies can receive MTM services via the CHL. Call 765-494-0111 to schedule or learn more about MTM services.
