Bela Fleck, Brooklyn Rider to perform together at Purdue
November 5, 2014
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The versatile banjoist Béla Fleck, along with the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, will perform at 8 p.m. Nov. 14 at 8:00 p.m. at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse. This performance is presented by Purdue Convocations with Friends Support from the Davis Family Endowment.
Thirteen-time Grammy-winning artist Béla Fleck has added classical-music composition and performance to a four decade-long journey of bluegrass, rock, jazz, pop, and world music. Similarly, Brooklyn Rider continues to redefine chamber music for the 21st century, with Philip Glass and indie-rock band The National among the group's collaborators.
This concert unites them for a program anchored by Fleck's "Night Flight Over Water" - a suspenseful chase story across three riveting movements for banjo and string quartet. This investigation of musical influences will continue in works from Brooklyn Rider's repertoire, solo turns from Fleck, and collaborative surprises.
Tickets are $32 for adults and $22 for those 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students. Tickets are available at the Stewart Center box office at 765-494-3933, 800-914-SHOW or online through www.convocations.org/tickets.
