Bastille comes to Purdue University’s Elliott Hall of Music this April
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indie Pop Band BASTILLE is coming to Purdue University’s Elliott Hall of Music on Sunday, April 2 at 7 p.m. This performance is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee with support from the Student Fee Advisory Board.
Formed in 2010, Bastille found acclaim with its album release “Bad Blood” in March 2013. The album hit the UK charts after the explosively positive response to the hit single “Pompeii” at No. 1, and the group rocketed to fame.
Originally a solo project started by Dan Smith, the group expanded to contain Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, and Chris Wood. The band got its name from the French Independence Day, July 14th, which is the lead singer Dan Smith’s birthday. Since signing with Virgin Records in 2012 the band has released three albums. Currently they are touring their third album “Wild World” on their current Wild Wild World Tour. The band approaches music as fantasy instead of autobiographical, writing and performing songs about topics instead of personal stories. It lends a mystic indie vibe to their music that differentiates them from other groups. To carry out this exploration of fantastic themes, their videos tend to feature surreal narratives instead of the band members. Their current album explores modern anxieties, with comforting anthems about living in anxious times. The groups’ energy on stage, with tendencies to join the crowd, and invigorate the audience with their passion is sure to be an exciting event this spring semester.
