Purdue marks Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Awareness Week
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University colleges of Agriculture, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Science are hosting a series of special events in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Awareness Week.
The schedule:
* Wednesday, Jan. 18: Writer, scholar, poet and filmmaker Kai M. Green, assistant professor in the Department of Feminist Studies at the University of California-Santa Barbara, will present a session on “Looking at the Civil Rights Movement vs. Black Lives Matter Movement” from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Pfendler Hall, Room 241.
* Thursday, Jan. 19: David G. Lewis, former Purdue administrator and founder of Lewis Consulting Group Inc., an educational training organization, will lead a series of Emotional Intelligence Workshops from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Nelson Hall, Room 1215; 11 a.m. to noon in Nelson Hall, Room 1215; 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Matthews Hall, Room 304; and 3-4 p.m. in Matthews Hall, Room 304. Participants are asked to register by Tuesday (Jan. 17) at purdue.ag/mlkworkshop.
* Friday, Jan. 20: James Dekle, music director of the Black Cultural Center, will present “Songs of Freedom: Negro Spirituals and Their Meaning,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Pfendler Hall, Room 241.
